Post-Mortem – Artist Role

  1. My Role I was the Artist on this project.
  2. Work I Did
  • I handled the importing and arranging of 3D assets for the supermarket interior. The original online assets were large and overly detailed, so I spent some time optimizing them for our game. This included adjusting lighting, materials, and the overall layout to better suit our game’s tone and performance requirements.
  • I worked on rigging and basic animations for the penguin model, penguin model sourced online.
  • I modeled and textured the signs for the two supermarkets.
  • I designed the banner for our game’s Itch.io page, aiming to show our chaotic co-op style.
  • I also imported and added the footstep sounds in Unreal Engine, syncing them with the character's animation using animation sequences. Kanban Hours: ~30 hours on the board Actual Time Spent: Closer to 40–45 hours, especially due to the sound and animation work I had to research independently.

  1. Reflection
  • Most Difficult Part: The footstep sound implementation was the most challenging part. I had to self-learn how to create and edit animation sequences in Unreal and how to properly time sounds within them. It took a lot of trial and error.
  • Obstacle: My lack of prior experience in UE sound implementation slowed me down.
  • What I Learned: I now understand how animation sequences work in Unreal and how they can be used to control sounds and effects.
  • Proud Moment: I’m most proud of our overall chaotic penguin supermarket idea. It feels like a fun party game concept with a lot of potential. If we continue, I’d love to explore a split-screen multiplayer mode (3–4 players) to enhance the party game vibe.
