Postmortum- Bodie Allen


Greetings! I'm Bodie Allen, I worked as the Narrative Designer for Waddle Mart!

I put together the itch page, snapped the pics for it, wrote the dialogue that appears (and doesn't appear yet) in game, and wrote up a descriptor for the world that pushed the direction for the game! Within our first meeting, I also kept detailed notes and kept the discussion on track. 

Taking off the narrative hat, I also did my best to fix a few code related issues in the last few weeks. I'll admit, I wasn't a lot of help in that department. I was able to see why something wasn't working and pinpoint the thing causing it, but I just didn't actually know how to fix it.

I faced a few issues with the project, I can't lie. The biggest being that although I enjoy doing narrative design things, there just isn't a lot of room for that for a game that isn't focused on story. It's not very difficult to write out a story for the world, but actually getting it well implemented when the gameplay isn't centered on story is a different story (little pun there). I struggled really having a "job" throughout the project. I originally planned on assisting with level design elements if I ran out of things to do, but that got handled very quickly by my amazing teammates. It was great that it had gotten handled quickly, but I was left floating a bit. 

My biggest takeaway is that when it comes to shorter projects (anything less than a few months), story and narrative elements are something that get handled quickly, then they should move on to literally anything else. As much as I love writing out all sorts of lore bits, it's not what's needed for a project like this. I wish I had said that I could do both narrative and level design, that way my teammates could've had at least that much more focus on the code of the game.
